The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service announced today that the deadline for paying taxes that would be due on April 15, 2020 has been extended.
An extension will give you six extra months to file your federal tax return but it will NOT give you more time to pay what you owe. If we’re filing an extension for you, and you’re not confident that you’ll receive a refund, we encourage you to make an extension payment by the April deadline.
