Our tax preparation process has changed for the 2021 filing season. We’re doing our best to keep our community safe and healthy, so we won’t be seeing anyone in person this year. Our new process will make it easy for us and our clients to work electronically.
Here’s what you can expect:
1) You’ll receive an invitation to Intuit Link in your email.
2) You’ll set up an account on Intuit Link. If you’ve ever used an Intuit product, like Turbotax or Quickbooks online, you should use the same login credentials for Link.
3) Once set up, Link will go through a list of questions. Most require a yes/no answer, but there are some that ask you to type an answer and/or upload a document to respond.
4) Link will also show you a list of documents that we’ve requested in order to prepare your 2020 returns. It will give you three ways to get those documents to us:
a. You can enter your login information for your bank/investment company/employer website and Link will automatically retrieve your 2020 1099, W-2 or other form(s).
b. You can upload documents that you’ve scanned or saved to your computer or phone.
c. You can snap photos of your documents with your phone and upload them to Link.
5) Once we have your information, and Carrie is working on your returns, we’ll send an email with a list of items that are missing, and any additional questions.
6) When your returns are completed, we’ll send a copy to you securely with a request for electronic signatures (via DocuSign).
7) When we’re notified that you’ve signed electronically, Carrie will e-file your returns.
It’s that easy. You don’t have to leave home – you don’t have to print anything – you don’t have to mail anything. All you have to do is make certain we have the best email address and phone number for you (and for your spouse, if you have one), and we’ll be good to go.
NEW CLIENTS
If you’re new to us this year, the process is the same. Please call our office and give Robyn the information we need to set you up in our system. That includes your/your spouse’s name(s), SSN(s), email address(es) and phone number(s). When she gets you set up, she’ll invite you to Link, and you’ll be ready to start.
PAPER PROCESS
If you’re not comfortable with computers or prefer that we prepare your taxes the old-fashioned way, we can accommodate that. Once you have your 2020 tax documents, schedule a Drop-Off appointment online or by calling the office. At the appointed time, you’ll drive into the loop near the rear doors of our building and call the office. One of us will come down to your vehicle to take your tax file, and we’ll be ready to start. To save yourself multiple trips, check out this blog post in order to put together a complete tax file the first time. If you’re self-employed, use this one, too. Please keep in mind that preparing returns on paper is a slower process, so it may take longer than working electronically.
